World Para Powerlifting has announced a correction to the earlier press release regarding a new world record in the women’s up to 79kg on day four (11 September) of the Asia-Oceania Championships in Kitakyushu, Japan.
Due to an error on the scoring system, China’s Xu Lili was wrongly credited with having broken the world record in the category.
The system listed the world record mark as 138.5kg, which Xu Lili set at the 2017 World Championships. However, that record has since been broken by Nigeria’s Bose Omolayo at August’s African Championships.
Omolayo’s lift of 139.5kg remains the current world record.
Lili’s 139kg lift at Kitakyushu 2018 is, therefore, an Asian record but not a world record.
